For soo many different reasons this album holds a lot of personal value. It has been 4 years since I've last felt a sense of pride and accomplishment, and since I've felt truly proud to be me. The 13 tracks on this cd are a compilation of some of what I believe to be my strongest songs that I've written within the past year and a half, many of them penned within the past 6 months. They are a good representation of my musical maturation, and the next segment of my life. With the exception of the playful songs such as "Torture and Tease" and "Bad Boy", there is a lot of heavy, heartfelt material, a lot of soul searching and topics discussed beyond teenage love, and heartbreak as reflected in my earlier songs. I've decided to go with "Back to Me" as the title track, as this album reflects my transition from my breakup with Reviving Ivory to a solo artist, and my quest to discovering myself within the music.
It's a fresh breath of air to be able to put out, and hand a cd to someone without any explanation for bad recording, or feeling embarrassed by some aspect of my performance. I've worked hard at writing, at recording, and producing these tracks for them to become what they are utilizing the very small budget t. I feel that I've learned from my mistakes in the past, and made a conscious effort this time around to keep things more simplified and to not "over do" any of the production. This album has just the feel I was looking to achieve: intimate, emotional, stripped, and a clear representation of what I sound like live. For those who will truly listen, I think they will view me entirely beyond the the image and beyond the smiles. It's through my music that you will see me for the true person I am; someone with internal conflict and self doubt, one who is discovering herself sexually and embracing the power of womanhood, and one who has persevered and came out strong from past obstacles and heartbreak.
As much as I enjoyed creating this, I hope you will enjoy listening :-)
