A new month, new season, new adventures, many more roads to travel. Lots of new opportunity and new excitement to look forward to personally. Change of plans regarding December's tour. No longer will we be staying in NY, as we now currently have shows booked in NYC, Pennsylvania, West Virgina, and are continuing to book outward. I'd like to maintain my steady gigs, and focus on booking and branching outside of Rochester in it's neighboring cities. I view playing in Rochester from more of an economic standpoint rather than anything else. There is no doubt that my dreams and ambition are a little too large for this small city. Here, there is a very small window of opportunity. People ask me all the time "Why are you here," or "Why not move to NYC?" In my very first blog here I promised to be candid, so here it is: I do not believe that moving to NYC or any other large city is the solution, nor do I believe that the window of opportunity is that much larger. SURE, there's more places to play, more people to expose your talent to, more "Big shots" that know the business well,record executives, etc, etc. GREAT, I don't care.
There's an undeniable amount of unforeseen talent in this country, in this WORLD; some whom which probably have more talent in their pinky than I possess in all ten fingers. Some whom which also stay in one area, and make no efforts to branch out and expose their talent to anyone more than those around them. The fact of the matter is that without traveling, without taking some small blows, without taking the good gigs with the bad, without making the financial sacrifices and sacrifices within commitment, there is NO chance in taking those larger leaps forward. One HAS to keep pushing, keep playing, keep moving forward, have a plan of action, no matter WHAT the circumstances are. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with frequently playing in one city if that is what you are aspiring to do and are content with doing. I encourage you if that is what you love to do, and if you are able to profit off of your passion by playing out regularly. I really hope that I am not coming off as being condescending to those who are doing this, because that is not my intention. All I'm saying is that if you DO desire to obtain anything more than that, or are aspiring to become the next big thing, obtain that record deal, it's imperative that you see beyond the vision and find a way as best as you can to make that vision come alive. There's too many musicians out there with egos the size of Canada that are nothing more than local celebrities, if that. We're all walking on level ground here. No one is better than anyone, let's be for real.
With that all being said, I make it a point to have a plan, and to have a goal ALWAYS. There's always something to strive for, always a new route, always a direction. There may be a few detours, and I may not always choose the right path. However, wIth every mistake I've ever made always came a valuable lesson learned, and I am grateful for that.
My ultimate plan and goal is to give music my best shot. I do believe that I'm talented enough to make it somewhere, but am also not blindsided by the fact that the odds of me retrieving the American Dream (at least what I consider to be the American dream) are pretty slim. While I'm in my twenties I plan to accomplish all that I set out and aspire to achieve. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.....but at least I know that I'll still have the ability to walk away happy knowing that I at least gave it my best shot. There won't be any wondering, and I refuse to have any regrets. Besides, I already have a backup plan. Only I am responsible for my own destiny.
So what's next?
Recording currently is at a standstill due to a few financial set backs. I'm only half way to my goal of completing 14 tracks, but am determined as hell to have this completed by the new year.
Had a fantastic photoshoot yesterday with the very talented Don Davis out in Syracuse yesterday. Some of the images will be used for promotion, as well as for the cd pamphlet once the cd is ready to be packaged. Working with Don has been an absolute pleasure, and I genuinely feel as if I've gained a really great friend aside from a partner in business. Can't wait for you all to see these. By no means do I take modeling seriously, but it sure as heck is a lot of fun. Especially when having the pleasure of working with someone who is truly gifted and awesome all at the same time :-)
Also currently in discussion is a music video for "Been Long." As of right now, we are just in the very beginning stages of planning, and just the framework behind it is currently in effect. Not sure when and where this'll all happen and take place, or even if this will entirely go through. Time'll tell, but the thought of it is all pretty enticing.
